Know more about the band

Friends from a long time ago, Francis Frenette and Steeve Marchand have always had a marked interest for Brit-Pop music and bands such as Oasis and Radiohead. Both grew up with a musical background, and early on, Steeve developed his skills on bass while Francis learned to play the guitar and sing. It is during the summer of 2005, while traveling across Europe, that the two friends decided to form a band that is now know as The Spleen.

Early on and after having recruited a few more musicians, and as they matured musically, the group realized that the name of the band should also evolve to represent their music. The Spleen was officially born. A term popularized in the 19th century by the French poet Charles Baudelaire in his collection entitled “The Spleen of Paris”, the spleen represents a melancholic state of mind that has no specific cause, a melancholy that creates some sort of a filter for our daily lives.

It is in the winter of 2007 that the band signs its first record contract with an independent label from Quebec City called Goego. After many longs months of composing and recording, The Spleen finally releases its debut album, No More, in late 2008. The positive reactions from the media and fans alike provided the band with an immense dose of energy and the band garners a lot of success, having two of their songs reach Top 10 at radio stations and Top 5 position at Musique Plus with their first video clip.

During the following three years after the release of their debut album, The Spleen toured extensively all around the Province of Quebec and Ontario playing live in front of thousands of fans. They also opened for the sensational Marie-Mai at the Bell Centre in Montreal in 2009.

In 2011, the group members started writing a bunch of new songs, and through the efforts of their manager Daniel Bibeau, signed a record deal with Tony Green for his label, Polaris Records. Their new album, Together and Freedropped on September 17, 2013. Their first single, I Won’t Let Go, is already spinning on radio and the video of the track hit Musique Plus at the end of the month.
